Dr. May is an oceanographer in the Ocean Data Assimilation and Probabilistic Prediction section at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. Her research includes the retrieval, error characterization, and assimilation of satellite-derived parameters – including sea surface temperature, state parameters, and ice concentration – to improve ocean, ice, atmosphere, and coupled modelling forecast systems. Dr. May’s work has a particular emphasis on the impacts of utilizing high resolution satellite SST observations to reduce errors in ocean forecast systems. She received her Ph.D. in Meteorology from Florida State University.
