9th Sentinel-3 Validation Team (S3VT) Meeting 2026: abstract submission open until 31 December 2025

The meeting will take place on 30 March – 01 April 2026 at ESA-ESRIN in Frascati (Rome), Italy.

The 9th Sentinel-3 Validation Team (S3VT) Meeting is hosted by ESA and co-chaired with EUMETSAT, and will focus on comparison of data from both Sentinel-3A and -3B missions, and latest validation and science results, as well as CalVal activities. Additionally, participants are encouragedto submit contributions supporting the CalVal and R&D activities to be performed during Sentinel-3C Commissioning and early exploitation phases.

The organisation of the meeting will be structured around the sub-groups for Altimetry, Sea and sea-ice surface temperature, Ocean Colour, Land and Atmosphere.

The specific objectives of this meeting are:

  1. To collect lessons learnt on validation procedures used to contribute to the quality assessment of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Optical and Altimetry mission.
  2. To review and consolidate the Cal/Val methods used operationally and to suggest analyses in support of the Sentinel-3C commissioning phase.
  3. To provide a forum to report results of on-going science activities related to the validation of Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B products.
  4. To collect suggestions for the establishment of operational test sites for the Sentinel-3 Level-2 products validation.
  5.   To provide recommendations for ad-hoc Sentinel-3 products validation campaigns.
  6.   To gather the Sentinel-3 scientific and user community and to foster cooperation and synergies among Cal/Val teams.
