International GHRSST Data Users Symposium

28-29 May 2009, Santa Rosa, CA

The Group for High-Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) project provides a new generation of uniformly processed satellite SST data and global high-resolution (<10km) SST products to the operational oceanographic, meteorological, climate and general scientific community.  The symposium will update GHRSST data users on satellite SST data sets and the current status of blended products.  We are requesting presentations on the latest research and/or applications using GHRSST data.  Topics may include, but are not limited to: oceanographic research, air-sea interactions, coral reefs, ocean modeling and forecasting, maritime pollution monitoring, coastal environmental protecting and management, fisheries, marine park management, sea ice, ocean circulation, and data assimilation systems.  The two day symposium aims to assemble a diverse group of scientists to discuss recent advances in the knowledge of processes related to sea surface temperature and foster enhanced collaboration between GHRSST data users and research groups.

The GHRSST Data Users Symposium will be held at the Vineyard Creek Hyatt in Santa Rosa, CA, USA, from 28 to 29 May 2009 and is organized by Remote Sensing Systems and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC). A detailed agenda will be established and circulated later, however we suggest that an early reservation is made for hotels as Santa Rosa is a popular travel destination.

Over 70 people have already registered for the symposium.  Registrations are still being accepted, but most presentation times have been filled.  You are welcome to submit a title and abstract, but may be given a poster instead of a presentation.

Hotel reservations may be made here.  Please make these as soon as possible as the deadline has passed and only a few rooms are being held at the special rate.  If you are unable to get the rate, make the reservation and then send an email to ghrsst-usersym@remss.com.  Attendees are responsible for their own hotel reservations.  This may be done separately from registration.  We strongly recommend making reservations as early as possible, prior to registration deadline.

With deep gratitude to Frank Wentz at Remote Sensing Systems and Peter Cornillon at the University of Rhode Island for sponsoring this symposium.

We encourage people to attend both the GHRSST Users Symposium and the science team meeting.  The Users Symposium will focus on applications of GHRSST data while the science team meeting will focus on the project.  Please see the link below for more details.

If you plan to attend the Tenth International GHRSST Science Team meeting, 1-5 June 2009, you must register separately, here.
