The main tasks of the High Latitude Working Group are:

Validation

  • To Validate and quantify the L2P SST observations for the High Latitudes
  • Address the choice of a reference sensor
  • To validate the satellite retrievals in the marginal ice zone (MIZ)
  • To stimulate the gathering of validating observations in these regions

Development

  • Develop methods for MIZ retrieval inclusion in level 4 products.
  • To address algorithm specific issues related to the special atmospheric conditons in the Arctic.

Other

  • To quantify the extent and frequency of diurnal warming in the high latitudes
  • To follow the developments within detection of sea ice detection and ice surface temperatures.
