GHRSST-PP Diurnal Variability Working Group (DVWG)
Welcome to the pages of the DVWG. This working group is responsible within GHRSST-PP for aspects of high-resolution sea surface temperature analysis that are affected by diurnal variability.
What is diurnal variability (DV)?
Why does DV matter to users (and potential users) of high-resolution SST?
What is the DV working group doing?
A diurnally warming event in the Mediterranean Sea observed by SEVIRI, 2nd July 2006, centred on 41.5N, 6.5E. The diurnal warming compared to the previous night is about 5 K maximum, and >2 K over a wide area.
Land and cloud appear black. Observation time, 1400 UTC.
Some DVWG data are available on an FTP Site: email wang@seastar.jpl.nasa.gov for access. There is also a wiki used by members hosted at Edinburgh.
