Vice-Chair - Chris Merchant, Univ. Edinburg, Scotland (C.Merchant@ed.ac.uk)
EARWiG Terms of Reference
Through increasing the co-operation and communication between its members, the estimation and retrievals working group aims to improve the estimation of sea surface temperature (e.g., L2P SSTs) from satellite radiances.
Within this remit, the group works to:
- improve the retrieval techniques by which SSTs are estimated from radiances, addressing long-standing problems such as geographical and aerosol-related biases;
- understand the interaction of cloud detection and retrieval techniques, with a view to reducing cloud-related biases;
- develop techniques for exploiting the system of sensors for mutual correction of retrieval biases.
- The group will also explore issues related to retrieval of lake surface temperatures and make recommendations to data providers.
The WG will work in coordination with adjacent activities of the Diurnal Variability Working Group and ST-Validation Technical Advisory Group. As improvements are identified and validated, the WG will coordinate with the RAN activity
If you are interested in participating in the group, please e-mail Chair or Vice-Chair.
