Data Access within the GHRSST
To access GHRSST data using an easy walkthrough system explaining what we have to offer start here!
I know what I'm doing - take me to the data!
Data products within the GHRSST are formatted as netCDF files according to the CF convention. Example data read software is provided to read GHRSST data files which can be downloaded from the Data Tools page. Two types of satellite SST products are generated: L4 SST analysis products and L2P SST integrated observation products. L2P data are ideal as input to data assimilation systems and SST analysis systems as they preserve the original SST values but provide additional uncertainty estimates and a suite of ancillary data to aid interpretation of the SST observations themselves. Data are generated at both Regional Data Assembly Centres RDAC sites and at Global Data Analysis Centres (GDAC) located located at the NASA JPL PO.DAAC. In the coming months a mirror GDAC located in Europe as part of the European Commission Access to ESSC visualizations are GMES Marine Core Services (MCS) project will be developed.
How to open and interpret GHRSST data: A tutorial
A GHRSST Data Access Tutorial is available to help get you started with GHRSST-PP Data. These tutorials help you access GHRSST data held at the GDAC and LTSRF. Access the Tutorial from http://ghrsst.nodc.noaa.gov/documents.html
Displaying GHRSST data in ESRI ArcGIS
The Royal Australian Navy has provided a detailed User Guide on how to analyse, display, and customise the presentation of GHRSST L2P, L2P-gridded, and L4 data using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and the Spatial Analyst Extension. Users should read the Data Access Tutorial first as the ArcGIS Desktop client requires the GHRSST netCDF data file to be local. Access the User Guide here.
Finding the data you want - the GHRSST MMR
The GHRSST-PP has developed a Master Metadata Repository (MMR) system that catalogues all data files that have been ingested by the GHRSST GDAC system. The MMR is a data discovery tool implemented as a searchable web based interface designed to allow users simple and easy lookups to the GHRSST data sets. The GHRSST prototype MMR system is now live and all data records can bve searched on-line using a simple user interface.
Datacasting GHRSST data sets
Datacasting is an RSS-based
technology for seamlessly disseminating information across the globe to those
passionate about the Earth Sciences. With Datacasting, data providers can
reach untold numbers of users using standards compliant technology.
Information about datacasting GHRSST data feeds is available at the NASA Datacasting site http://datacasting.jpl.nasa.gov/
