Research and Development

There is a vast amount of research within the SST community at present. Particular challenges for the GHRSST-PP include:

  • USe of SST data sets and maps for Coral Reef management in Australia  (the ReefTemp project)
  • Uncertainty estimation and Single Sensor Error Statistics for satellite data sets
  • Understanding differences between L4 Analysis product (the GHRSST-PP Multi-Product Ensembe Technical Advisory Group (GMPE-TAG))
  • SST in the marginal ice zone within the Sea Ice Technical Advisory Group (SI-TAG)
  • Accounting for diurnal variability in SST
  • Use of GHRSST data within the Australian Bluelink Reanalysis (BRAN)
  • Cloud clearing of infrared satellite data sets
  • Data merging techniques
  • Bias correction of complementary data sets
  • Calibration of microwave satellite radiometers
  • Validation of SST data products, satellite sensors and analysis products
  • Improvements to SST analysis systems
  • Satellite SST data management in a distributed real time environemnt
